GANDHIGIRI: Whose gonna Lage Raho ??

Another 2nd of October just passed by, the only day in the year when the father of the nation is remembered by the nation. This is an annual story, but this year there was a difference as Gandhi was remembered often, thanks to Lage Raho Munna Bhai.

For all those who have seen the movie know how the character has been used to touch the hearts of the people and once again remind people that non-violence can still help us to win conflicts and how problems can be solved in a peaceful manner, but there is one question that comes to my mind when I think of applying the same principles in real life. Will the funda of 1947 hold good in 2007 ???

The movie has certainly changed many people all over the nation and as seen on television programs (debates and discussions about Gandhigiri) and the articles on the national newspapers, it has given us a new topic to talk about. Many people are now talking about using Gandhiji’s principle to solve the common problems, yep I said, talking about, now whether this will happen is reality or will the effect of the movie fade away with time, is something that needs to be looked into.

The fact remains that many people are today preaching Gandhigiri but practicing goondagiri for the ultimate thing and that’s rajgiri, I’m talking about the politicians who have made politics dirty but thinking and working for their own gains rather than helping the nation to move ahead. No need to mention anything about our government offices and their procedure of working, so will someone be ready to remove his clothes before them to get his work done?? Or will someone give his second chick after getting a tight slap on the first one?? One of the major problems faced by the world today is terrorism; can this be solved using gandhigiri? These people have no laws, they just go on killing innocent people, will gandhigiri help us to get over them ??

As for me, I personally feel that its very very difficult (certainly not impossible) to go on with gandhigiri in today’s world, we need to understand that it worked very well in 1947, but we are now almost in 2007. During that time we were fighting against a common enemy and that’s the British Empire, now the enemy lives amongst us, many a times we find ourselves dancing with the devil but we have no other way out. But I also value the method used in Rang De Basanti (killing the corrupt ministers) to get people moving in the right direction. The re-opening of Jessica Lal murder case and the strong movement of the youth for the Anti-Reservation policy are clear examples that the youth now have realized the power they have within them. An awakening has already taken place.

Bollywood now has started touching the hearts of the youth and I wont be wrong if I say that these movies are imparting the history lessons in a better manner as compared to those dry history lessons from our text books which never got down the throat easily.

So I’ve found mixed opinions of people who were asked either on television or on surveys conducted at various places as to whether Gandhigiri will work in the present world. I would love to know about what my friends feel about the same. So here’s me requesting all of you people who gonna read this blog to comment as to what you people feel about implementing the concept of Gandhigiri. Just curious to know who are the ones who really wanna Lage Raho to Gandhigiri …
