THE long-LAST-ed SUPPER

21st of April 7:30 pm: five guys from law, two from MCA, two from Marathi, and one each from Marine Science, Micro Biology, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Electronics came together. If the next thing coming to your mind is a seminar, symposium, debate or discussion then you're very bad in guessing. It was that five-letter word, which animated the atoms within them and created the positive vibrations to amplify the bonding, which sprouted some years back and hence they disregarded all other work and amalgamated to do justice to their once shared relation. Yes, the five-letter word is PARTY !!!

A party for all those (and also by all those) who once lived blissfully in Quarters numbered A-13 and A-14 (if you don't know about these Quarters then you have missed some of my blogs, so read the previous posts and continue). Don't really know how all this got premeditated but one thing I should mention, Orkut had a foremost role in making this possible. Since the date was decided and everybody was intimated, all were waiting for the sun to rise on 21st of April. I reached the warden's quarters at around 9:00 am, Dillon had almost finished cleaning the place, and surprisingly Pritam and Sushant had got up and had gone for tea, and Balla Krishna (Ballack from now on) was anxiously waiting to welcome the invitees. As we started going on with our chat-pati battein Pritam and Sushant returned from the canteen and after the Hi, Hello, How are you part, Sushant left for his last paper and I headed to the Department.

Next we met at around 6:30 pm in the Wardens Quarters, Rupesh ('Language' as we used to call him) joined us along with one of his friend. Sushant then came back after answering his paper and complained that the only Article that he didn't study came for the exam (remember Murphy's law?). Salil and Srikant were next to add on. We then began to plan what should be brought from the market. Food and beverages were the two columns on the list. Suggestions began pouring from all sides, this masala and that masala, garlic paste and ginger paste and what not, even I fired some names of vegetables and spices [;)] , unfortunately none of them made to the final list [:(] and that's when I realized that I'm still a stranger to the vegetables. The drinks too were listed and the final contribution per head was calculated. That was coming a bit too less so Sushant immediately increased the stock of drinks, that's because we don't eat much, apne figure ka bhi khayal raknah padta hai, you see. The list was finalized and six people on three bikes were off for shopping.

8:00 pm: after having lost on the way(as always) we all met at Royal foods, Salil and Srikant stayed there and we went to the vegetable market, we couldn't decide from whom to buy, so finally decided to buy from the person who sits outside the vegetable market, that poor fellow was happy because suddenly many people rushed to his shop, but unfortunately for him all came with a single common list. We did eat his brains a bit and finally when everything was packed we refused to buy from him because he was giving us one rupee discount, a discount would have resulted in an upset in our calculations, we never considered it before (this was what we told him) and so he refused to give the discount and we collected the vegetables from him. I was then sent to buy coconuts, I never knew coconuts come in different prices, eight, ten and fifteen rupees, I did ask which ones are imported but they simply laughed, so I decided to buy the ten rupees ones (wow, what a great decision). Another few more things were bought and all these were shipped to the room for the cooks to begin. The best cook Bhiju was absent so Language took over and Ballack and Dillon pretended to be his assistants. Jeetu and Neelu also joined in the cooking. We then went to buy Ice and Drinks. Buying Ice was cool but Drinks was not so, the wholesaler did have our beja'z fried, seriously Taliegao needs a better drinks wholesale (readers from Taliegao, hope you have taken a note of this). When we returned to the room the people needed Uundé or the pãnv not the slice bread, so had to go all the way to SantaCruz. When the party was about to begin there were no glasses in the room, this made us travel to the very small five star Bar called Vrundavan on the edge of the university campus, we did get glasses over there, and we were ready to set the party on a roll. Just then Pritam informed me that we should go to GMC as our teachers daughter was admitted there due to a hand fracture.

We moved to GMC to find this cute girl over there with a bandage around her hand, She was admitted at around 4:30pm and can you believe, nothing much was done till 12:00 midnight. We couldn't even find out which doctor was assigned as nobody over there was very informative. The worst thing is that she was not given any thing to eat till that time because of the anesthesia thing. And finally when she was taken to the operation theater they said she couldn't be given anesthesia as she had cough, and that nothing can be done that night. All that I would say is avoid falling sick on a Saturday evening and if you don't succeed then at least avoid going to GMC on that day. We did stay there for some time, although we didn't do anything great by staying over there but just preferred to hang on for some time until we went back at around 2:00 am.

The party had already begun, the big water drum used for chilling the drinks and some utensils were being banged as Salil's guitar was being strummed to provide the music. It started with Jagjit Sings ghazals and songs like Pehla Nasha and Wonderful Tonight (obviously all were sober then) and then when everybody got into the Copix mood their own compositions were being sung. I just went inside to check the food, it was well cooked, although the French fries looked more like African ones, but rest all was really gud, thanx guys for not opening the drinks until cooking was over. They then started dancing: Ballack, Siddu (Dudi) and Darshan(Shaktiman). Later they started attacking each other with their on the spot composed songs. Songs like main to gaya bazaar mein…. and the shabai shabai shabai part towards the end of the song was really brilliant.

Salil did come up with wonderful compositions although Darshan used to compose all crap but still everyone enjoyed them as they were against Language. Salil has picked up the guitar really well (the only guy who made it, as many had decide to learn the guitar), he did sing some nice songs, Srikant and Siddu are all good singers as well. Rane banged the Drum really well while Srikant played the utensils. Sushant was adding more masala to the songs while Ashley was capturing every moment on his camera. Pritam prefered not to sing and was just enjoying the preceedings.

We then began having our dinner (finally, this was around 3:30 am if I'm not mistaken), the people who posed a threat of "Volcanic Eruptions" were served first then the others joined. By the time all could finish eating we realized that Language had already gone to sleep. Might be poor fellow couldn't digest the songs composed against him. The guys did sing some more songs after that (not thanks giving songs, huh). Then we started talking to each other (I know that it was not the right time, but...) like how are you doing, how is work going, what are the future plans and so on….finally we all went to sleep at around 5:30am.

I do remember Language saying to me " Merry Christmas, happy new year and wish you everything, I am leaving", guess he left at that time. It was around 7:00 am and my soul refused to wake up and my body just helped my soul. I finally got up at 9:00am, at this time some were dead asleep, some were still trying to get sleep, and some were confused whether to get up or continue sleeping. I tried searching for Ballack (the best tea maker in the room) but he was missing, left for home I guess. Even Dillon (second best tea maker) had gone by then, so I had to leave without tea. I finally said bye to all and left the place, since then it has been no news of any one from there, hope those guys are still not sleeping. It was a wonderful get-together, the shopping part of it was more fun though. We have planned for another one in the next month.

It was nice meeting all these guys after a long time, those old days are simple unforgettable, the way we played cricket, the rivals, the fights, pranks, early morning joggings etc etc. Now everybody is busy in their own walks of life yet everybody made it a point to be there. Everybody has grown more stupid and have become better composers of all those funny songs. Thanks guys! It was a wonderful re-union, hoping for some more of those in the near future.
